Why, Exactly, Is The School Involved In This?

Police have reprimanded dozens of students at an Australian high school after a girl was filmed performing a sex act on a classmate and the footage was distributed to more than 100 other students.

Horrified relatives of the 15-year-old girl called New South Wales police after becoming aware she had been filmed and the footage had been sent to dozens of classmates at Woonona High School...

The girl told police the act had been consensual and she did not wish to file a complaint.

A Department of Education spokesman said yesterday that the principal was cooperating with police.

He said the incident had been filmed outside the school grounds.

It's that last sentence that makes me ask why the school is involved at all. The full article is here.

I think that it was because the school had been the point of distribution (on mobile phones during school hours). It was here that teachers raised concern. I guess at this point, the school becomes involved.

They will eventually have to manage the girl's ongoing welfare, as it is a one school town, and you can imagine the bullying.

The cops will need to interview a load of students and their parents to see how this happened… and get the video’s back…we both know how easy it is to “undelete” something in digital format.…porno of a juvenile is very illegal in this country and I’m assuming the same in Australia.

From the article there were teens that did it…

“Although detectives had intended to charge the students, all under 16, who filmed and distributed the footage, there was no evidence to pursue”

The cops will need to know things about the students like disciplinary records.
