Why Do We Even Go Through The Charade?

Why have schools, or grades, if this is what schools are becoming?  Why not just be honest, admit that the function of government education centers is to warehouse and indoctrinate children, and then release them into society?  It would be more honest than pretending that this practice has anything to do with teaching math:

A mathematics guide sent out to Oregon schools tells educators that asking students to show their work in math class is a form of white supremacy.

In an email sent out by the Oregon Department of Education, teachers were encouraged to enroll in a course called “A Pathway to Equitable Math Instruction.” The course came with an 82-page instructional guide that lists the ways in which white supremacy is perpetuated in math class.

“White supremacy culture infiltrates math classrooms in everyday teacher actions,” the guide reads. “Coupled with the beliefs that underlie these actions, they perpetuate educational harm on Black, Latinx, and multilingual students, denying them full access to the world of mathematics.”

The guide offers a year-long framework for “deconstructing racism in mathematics.” It calls for “visibilizing [sic] the toxic characteristics of white supremacy culture with respect to math.”

If you go anywhere in the world, even and especially in places where there are no white people, you'll find math classes with teachers "asking students to show their work, focusing on getting the right answer, tracking student success, and grading students."  They don't think it's white supremacy, why should you?  Or maybe you just have a sinister, ulterior motive.

I was wondering if you'd seen this article. The public doesn't understand that equity as it is being used now in education is not the same as equality. What the Left is seeking is insured outcomes. This is the same reason our students don't memorize math facts in elementary. I promise you that in China, Russia and India students learn the multiplication tables which in turn enables them to pass through some logic steps more easily by using a different part of the brain. Instead of raising up children of color by helping them to internalize math or literature or science or history, they want assurance that no matter what a student of color does, they will be rewarded. Would you want a surgeon brought through such a system? Would you trust a bridge or building designed by a person taught this way? We are institutionalizing mediocrity over merit.

I agree with Ellen's comment. Don't drive over any bridges 10 years from now, either! Equity is just another way of saying equality of outcome. It's Marxism being pushed on us. I don't know why these forces want to push this ideology if it has failed in every single place it was implemented. I know because my parents came to this country from Latin America to get away from socialism. Ask any Venezuelan, Cuban, Brazilian or anyone from any country in Latin America what awaits the west if this ideology keeps getting pushed!
Math is not racist. I attended a workshop at a large, respectable engineering school on teaching computer science. It was via zoom. I hit "end the call" when the topic turned into "white supremacy in computer science". Utter trash.
