I support reasonable dress codes and standards of appearance. As this boy's father says, if the boy's hair were dyed some bright color or up in Statue of Liberty spikes, that could be what the school considers "distracting" to the learning environment. But the boy's hair just covers his ears.
The school has no business regulating a student's hair length in this manner.

Lock me up and throw away the key, my barber retired and my ears are currently mostly covered by hair. :) That is absolutely ridiculous.
I would care less, except for the fact that education is COMPULSORY and is paid for by our tax dollars. So what if the parents WANT their kid to have purple hair and spikes? Should they get into trouble for not raising their child as the school wishes when the truancy officer comes calling?
I know it's not an issue for a four-year-old, but I'm just saying.
*sigh* It's Mesquite ISD again. They have administration that is living in the 1950's with Ozzie and Harriet. The kid is FOUR and his hair wasn't that long. While I do have an issue with the parents saying it was the kid's choice, at some point there are far more important battles we should be fighting here.
