I just dug up this clip from 1992...Thunberg does not present well. At least Cullis-Suzuki doesn't sound stark raving mad.
Severn Cullis-Suzuki's speech to the UN in 1992 on climate change sounds an awful lot like Greta Thunberg's in 2019.
I cut the two together to show just how similar the language is....
Update, 10/8/19: To use a term that's popular amongst the lefties today, I'm enjoying the intersectionality of this:
Supporting Greta Thunberg is evidence of 'white supremacy', activists claim

Look at you, obsessed with a 16 year old with Aspergers sparking massive rallies around the world and nominated for a Nobel.
No really, you’re the one who can bring her down, middle aged white guy teaching math in the burbs!
You’ve been parodied. Congratulations. It nails you perfectly.

Tell me when something changes. Tell me when you walk to work, when you cancel your vacations, when you shiver in the cold.
BTW, it's not just me who's been parodied. Here's your latest child god:

To toss her own words back at her, How dare you.
Anonymous,
You seem exceedingly obsessed with a blog run by a "middle aged white guy teaching math in the burbs". Get a life!
Severn Cullis-Suzuki was worried about the ozone. Then, the left pushed global cooling and a coming ice age. Next, global warming. The latest, a bratty teenager on a yacht wearing thousands of dollars of petroleum based foul weather gear is given a platform to shame us about the climate catastrophe.
Isn’t it interesting that no matter what the current global crisis is, according to leftists, the solution is always the same: a benevolent world dictatorship of the enlightened elite, and mass transfer of wealth from rich nations to poor nations. All the while the elite keep their Martha's Vineyard oceanfront estates, SUVs full of bodyguards, and private jets. They’re like fervent abolitionists who never get around to freeing their own slaves (also Democrats).
Anon, when you hide behind teenage kids like Severn Cullis-Suzuki, David Hogg, and Greta Thunberg and use them for human shields like you are now, what you're really saying is "Hey my political arguments can't be made by functioning, well-adjusted adults."
Walk to work.
“Tell me when you walk to work, when you cancel your vacations, when you shiver in the cold.”
You never weary of the “until everyone on the left lives like monks, I shall do nothing” when in reality, you’re going to do nothing regardless of what anyone does.
Nope.
Maybe I’ll live (as you do) in a manner to condemn the future of the planet. Your son will live in the destabilized climate you and I created together. He’ll wonder why you rejected the science to destroy the planet he has to live in.
The world has decided—for now—to go full fossil-fueled steam ahead into the Sixth Planetary Extinction (already in progress). I’m here to help you push humanity into extinction. It will take some time, to be sure.
But in the end, the Earth will not miss the humans. But the planet is a resilient Petri dish for life. And I’ll nourish the hope that a future apex species will evolve in a manner to make them better stewards of the planet who can thrive long enough to do wonderful things. Maybe even get off this rock. Humans won’t be the Earth species to do that. And that’s probably for the best.
You never weary of the "everyone else must live up to my ideals before I will" belief, loudly screaming your liberal bona fides and signalling your so-called progressive virtue, but in actuality hoping that everyone else *won't* actually live up to your ideals because you don't want to, either.
Since you've given in, will you finally crawl back under your rock and remain silent? After all, you have nothing to offer any of us now.
The problem with Greta, and all of the fervent youth who insist the world must change for their needs, is they have no perspective. My parents lived through the Oklahoma Dust Bowl. History records the little Ice Age. I'm reading a book right now about the deadliest hurricane to reach US shores in 1900 Galveston. Even back in the 19th century, as technology was starting to catch up to science, the paintings "The Scream" by Edvard Munch reflected the apolcalyptic fears of people back then as the result of red skies produced because of dust thrown up by Krakatoa, half a world away. Heck, the world's largest supervolcano in Wyoming could blow and we wouldn't have to worry about any of this. But these kids don't get that kind of perspective because their history knowledge is carefully curated to reflect diversity of everything except facts.
