Probably the worst mistake that charter school advocates make is keeping the debate focused on education. By doing so potential allies don't come to understand that they have a dog in this fight.
The tax money that goes to fund the central administration is up for grabs when there's no central administration. Might the local mayors be interested? Might the local municipal unions be interested? Might local tax-reduction proponents be interested?
By not treating the charter school debate as a political fight charter school proponents needlessly weaken their own cause.
