And for 8 years the NEA has been in the political wilderness (they just love NCLB) because they refuse to reach out to Republicans. They star may be ascending now, but it's been dim for quite some time. It'll be dim again if they choose to keep all their eggs in one basket.
I don't think the press release is necessarily a sign of a star in ascension.
When you have issue a release to remind people how politically powerful you are, you aren't. Not quite sure I understand why that is but it's more and more clearly the case that the NEA isn't quite the political 800-pound gorilla it once was.
