The Pittsburgh Post-Gazette has launched a wonderful little feature that will run until Barack Obama takes the oath of office next month. They are calling it "Dear Mr. Obama" and it is a heartwarming exercise in child indoctrination and brainwashing. The Post-Gazette will be publishing letters from local students to Obama asking him for all sorts of global warming fixes, Iraq war enders, and big government programs.
Sadly, it appears that the government schools these kids have been subjected to have failed to teach their charges about anything like the American system, federalism, even science seems neglected. But they SURE taught their kiddies that government is there to spend, spend, spend, that government is to be treated like our collective parents, and that the war in Iraq is obviously an evil venture. Obviously.
They'll grow out of it. After all, if you're not a liberal by the time you're 20 you have no heart, and if you're not a conservative by the time you're 30 you have no brain. And I choose to believe that at least some of those children have brains.

Or have never held a job.
I believe the union-monopolized government school system controlled by the left-leaning has been purposefully dumbing down our nation. Look at how Obama was elected. Obama voters didn't know or understanding anything about Obama or his radical leftism other than the "Change" bumpersticker. The planned worked brilliantly. And we will suffer for it.
I think we can have some sway over our Republican politicians who have for FAR too long been eager and willing to compromise Conservatism (and in so doing have been sabotaging the Republican party from the inside).
Please check out this Reagan Conservative petition entitled: We Demand True Conservative Leadership

I don't.
I think it's a natural outcome of the system.
I'm reflexively dismissive of conspiracies so any purposefulness in the "dumbing down" of America gets little credence from me. If you can point to the conclaves where the responsibilities for the dumbing-down of America are handed out please do so.
The obviousness of that dumbing-down does require an explanation though and that explanation is the inevitable result of a public education system that's largely in business to suit itself.
With teachers, administrators and elected officials having no direct and measurable responsibility to the education process education inevitably falls by the way side.
There's your explanation without a conspirator in sight.
In most of our history and literature classes, the bias on the ideas presented are liberal in nature. Very seldom are any other views demonstrated except in the nature of debate. Some of the most liberal, and vocal, teachers in our school are in charge of the AP programs in World and American History, Government and Literature. Is it any wonder that our kids go into college and so readily accept the indoctrination there?
