Is It A School, Or A One-Shop Socialism Stop?

In an effort to keep poor students attending class during their periods, California schools will provide free tampons and pads.

I’m at a loss for words on this one.

Women teachers have been doing this quietly for a long time on their own dime. For a girl, these things are absolute necessities and there's not much worse than running out at school, or having an accident. Yeah, if a girl doesn't have anything at home, she won't go to school. She won't go anywhere, because she can't.

I'm all for a school having a stash of supplies for girls who haven't got enough to get through the day. You needn't worry that girls will mooch; the generic stuff a school would buy is *far* less comfy than the somewhat fancier kind people buy for themselves. School supplied items would be a last resort.

Nurse has always provided. Gym teacher too.

Next up for attendence here is afternoon school. We already have night school..afternoon school has its own staff that will work 1:1 with the students who are not suceeding on homebound. Transportation is provided, at a much more expensive cost than taxi. Compelled.studemts with three or more study halls did get an AP Science class to give them somethng to do, so all is not lost.

Because so many of our students ride buses (largely because the majority don't get their licenses until they are 18 even though they can afford it....)we have an hour in the middle of the day that is supposed to be for tutoring. Of course the kids we need to come for help don't come. This was largely the product of trying to raise testing scores for one group-black males. They offered them rides, meals, incentives-but the majority wouldn't stay and their parents wouldn't make them.
