Was display of the Confederate flag the issue? If so, how could anyone seriously conceive of Redneck Day and not the that flag would be involved?
Was the day insensitive to rednecks?
Do people need to put on their big girl panties (to paraphrase Margaret Spellings) and quit worrying about such stupidity?
The correct answers are yes, they're stupid, yes, and yes.

Remember in previous debates we discuss the usefulness of the federal Department of Education. Why the hell does this waste of taxpayer's money have a Office for Civil Rights or a SWAT team?
No, we don't have things to delete from the federal budget.
Here's my line...if a student wanted to display the Confedarate flag on his/herself, I'd have no problem with it ... I mean, try to buy a Lynyrd Skynyrd T-shirt that DOESN'T have one on it. But sanctioning a public school event that encouraged it? Dicey. I want to support them on free speech grounds, and you KNOW I'm opposed to dress codes and the like ... but I think that could well fall in to the category of upsetting school procedures ...
