I've argued this for years - whenever I throw a piece of paper away and my self-righteous enviro students say "you're killing trees, you're killing the Earth." I say, "I have news for you. The trees are already dead. The primary tree planters in the world is the timber industry. And the earth will be fine. We're the ones who are fucked." We can make the Earth uninhabitable - and we may very well may be - but the Earth is fine.
And, I completely agree with him. I'm not worried about the Earth or some species of animal. I'm worried about myself. I want my water clean and my air fresh. I don't want fracking oil in my groundwater, lead in my air, ecoli in my spinach, or any more SuperFund sites in beautiful Colorado.
Oh, and if you think Carlin's piece is anti-environmental, then you need to join my freshman English class. You've missed the point of irony.

It's not anti-environmental, but it's not tree-hugger, either. The choice isn't binary.
Agreed.
Breath of fresh air, and a load of common sense! Gotta love Carlin.
I saw him in New Orleans back in 87 and I'm still laughing from that night...he was coming to Houston the year he died...damned
