Has The Prison At Guantanamo Bay Closed Yet?

Two years ago today, within hours of being sworn in as president, President Obama signed an executive order, to great fanfare, ordering the closing of the Guantanamo Bay prison within one year.

Has it closed yet? No? Hm.

I am sure there are many things that were promised that have fallen to the wayside. But the media would rather cover liberals calling their congressional opponents nazis.

Personally, I'd put this one in in the win column. Doesn't matter to me that he said he would close it, as long as those bastards are still locked up there.

Max, of course you know that the fault lies in the arrogance and stupidity of "commanding" it closed in the first place.

Kind of depends on your purpose.

If you're trying to, temporarily, get the anti-war left on your side to help cinch up the Democratic presidential nomination then making the promise is a great idea. You can always turn your back on them because they represent a microscopic, if noisy, constituency.

So, arrogant? Maybe. Stupid? No.

It may, in fact, be immoral to fail to exploit left wing zealots and then cast them aside when it's expedient.

The best thing that could happen to Gitmo? Tsunami (after our troops have evacuated). What do you think the imams would say about that? It was they who blamed Katrina on a wrathful God.
