I received this in the mail today:
Writing that had to hurt.
I appreciate the respectful tone, and hope against hope that they'll live up to their words. I am far less optimistic that they'll change anything in an effort to earn my money, and thus for the foreseeable future I'll be saving about $700 in agency fees.

Based on listening to you over these past many years, I am a bit surprised that you did not comment on the last sentence. Is the primary mission of the union to protect & enhance your pay, benefits, and working conditions or to produce "quality public schools."
A comparison to make my point clear: The auto union's mission is to protect the auto worker. Ford's mission is to produce a quality automobile people want to buy. The two normally try to work together to accomplish both their respective missions. However, sometimes the two missions clash and the union's raison d'etre is to protect the union members, not produce the quality automobile.
At least, that is what I've learned from your blogging over these years.
They muck up their mission with statements like that.
See, *now* that the union is full of volunteers, they can do whatever the heck they want with their money. When they were extorting money from me, though, ostensibly to bargain for my pay, benefits, and working conditions, that's what they should have focused on.
But we all know that they were just an ATM for left-wing organizations and the Democratic Party as a whole.
I always appreciate getting the Teachers' Unions newsletters in the mail. They help me decide who not to vote for...
Daren, is there another group that provides legal representation and liability insurance?
For several years now I've been a member of the Association of American Educators, a non-partisan, non-union voluntary association. I get liability insurance through them, and access to their attorneys if I'm sued.
As for legal representation, I'll pay for my own if I need it.
