What's The Right Call?

I know some people who would say it's never OK to arm yourself.  I wonder if they'd change their minds if they found out the person who armed himself was black, gay, and bullied?
Darnell "Dynasty" Young, a 17-year-old gay student at Arsenal Tech High School in Indianapolis, Ind., is facing possible expulsion after he fired a stun gun at bullies he claims were about to beat him up, the Indianapolis Star reports.

According to the paper, Young said classmates frequently harassed him, at times throwing rocks and taunting him for dressing too flamboyantly. Chelisa Grimes, Young's mother, also told the paper that when she went to school officials to complain, they placed the blame on Young for being "openly gay."
He fired the stun gun into the air.  Doesn't that kinda defeat the purpose???

Anyway, I don't think anyone comes out of this story sounding very good.

In England, defending yourself against an attacker is viewed as far more heinous than the actual attack. I pray that never happens here.

"What a wicked animal, when attacked, it defends itself."

As much as i hate to say it, the possession of the stun gun in school is a problem and something must be done.

At the same time, it is clear that there need to be lawsuits against the administrators of this school -- in their personal capacities, since they knew of the bullying and did nothing to stop it.
