Texas has a 90% attendance requirement or students "absence fail" classes. I have a student who five weeks into a class that meets daily has already missed eight classes. The thing is, his mother and father are doctors and they write excuses as doctors not parents. In the meantime it falls on classroom teachers to bring them up to date.
