Freeman Dyson on Climate Science

Since climate "science" has devolved into a political issue, let's first identify Dyson's politics:
An Obama supporter who describes himself as "100 per cent Democrat," Dyson says he is disappointed that the President "chose the wrong side." Increasing CO2 in the atmosphere does more good than harm, he argues, but it is not an insurmountable crisis. Climate change, he tells us, "is not a scientific mystery but a human mystery. How does it happen that a whole generation of scientific experts is blind to obvious facts?"
Since he disagrees with Obama he's obviously a racist, right, lefties?  Or do you have another reason to discount him?  And you're going to have to disagree with him:
He pours scorn on "the holy brotherhood of climate model experts and the crowd of deluded citizens who believe the numbers predicted by the computer models".

"I have studied the climate models and I know what they can do. The models solve the equations of fluid dynamics, and they do a very good job of describing the fluid motions of the atmosphere and the oceans. They do a very poor job of describing the clouds, the dust, the chemistry, and the biology of fields and farms and forests," writes Dyson...

"Many of the basic processes of planetary ecology are poorly understood. They must be better understood before we can reach an accurate diagnosis of the present condition of our planet," he says.
The models are primitive.  Many don't even account for water vapor (our largest so-called greenhouse gas), and none of them has predicted our current 17-year lack of warming.  Much like the "young earthers", who think the earth is 6000 years old, there's enough evidence here to question the orthodoxy.

The cherries you pick seem to be getting harder and harder to find.

It's FREEMAN DYSON.

Yes, Freeman "Not a Climate Scientist" Dyson.

Richard "Not a Climate Scientist" Muller (also a physicist) had similar misgivings about climate change. So he took money from the Koch brothers with the intention of proving that physicists can science better than those climate jokers.

While Dyson is content to curmudgeon from the comfort of his armchair, Muller did the messy work of measurement and data analysis. And in the end, he confirmed the findings of those "unwashed" climate scientists.

Ah, so *you* know more about this than Dyson? *You* can challenge his comments on the inaccuracies of the models? Classic.

I love how Anonymous people are so positive that their views are the only way. I have relatives who are so similarly sure that they won't allow any news stories, articles, columns or information that doesn't agree with their agenda and world view. I am so sick and tired of the Left labeling anyone who dares to oppose them as racist or stupid or negligent. The fact is that the science is NOT settled. No scientific theory ever is settled. So just the fact the continue to assume that all involved in physics or climate theory are in lockstep agreement proves that they are simply blowing smoke.

And that smoke is polluting the air, destroying the rain forests, and causing global warming. :-)

I live along the Texas Gulf Coast. Every year, a local professor leads a field trip to central Texas, to what we call "the Hill Country" because it's anywhere from 500 to 1500 feet higher than our sea level elevation.

Part of the purpose of the trip is to hunt for fossils of marine animals that were plentiful in the seas that covered what is now the entire state of Texas during the Cretaceous.

Current sea levels rising because of global warming? We've got a long way to go to get back to where we used to be. Bring it on!
