You Can Tell School Is Starting Up Again...

Many of the hits on the Statcounter today are for my 6-year-old post about allowing students to leave class to use the restroom.

I just read this ... I first tried to make my restroom policy based on economic principles. I would give out 3 passes per semester, and allow them to be traded in for a small number of bonus points if not used, and they could, of course be bartered. But ... wow. A lot of extra, non-teaching related work. Much easier just to let them go, and accept the consequences of what they missed ... unless they clearly abuse the policy. I hate making them ask ...it's, in my opinion, an embarrassing act for them, and interrupts instruction. I know that a teacher needs to know where his or her students are, but there should be a better way to do it.
