From National Review:
California will become the first state in the country to require all teachers and school staff to receive the COVID-19 vaccine or undergo weekly testing, Governor Gavin Newsom announced Wednesday.
“We think this is the right thing to do and we think this is a sustainable way to keeping our schools open and to address the number one anxiety that parents like myself have for young children,” Newsom said of the decision on Wednesday as he visited a San Francisco Bay Area school that has already reopened after summer break.
The announcement comes amid concern over the highly contagious delta variant as California students return to school after summer break.
What risk is there "for young children"? Gawd, can we just recall this idiot already? And
if we're worried about kids' being exposed to the 'rona and taking it
home to grandma, then grandma should get a vaccination to protect
herself. Requiring healthy people to cover their face? I'm not a woman in a Muslim country.
Then there's this:
California’s vaccine policy comes days after Dr. Anthony Fauci told USA Today that he would “lean strongly toward” vaccine mandates for teachers, despite the fact that even without a mandate, almost 90 percent of educators and school staffers are vaccinated.
So, if it's true that almost 90% of school staffs are vaccinated (it probably is), and if it's true that children face an infinitesimal threat from the 'rona (it is), then why for the love of God are we required to wear masks in class?
The government of this state is a cruel joke.
Genuine question: do you know what asymptomatic spread refers to? Or how about antigenic drift?
ReplyDeleteIf people aren't dying from this, it's not a problem that should change lifestyles of people all over the planet. If you're afraid of dying from it, get a vaccine. Those work, right?
ReplyDeleteI'm assuming that, by not answering either of my questions, that means you don't know? If you'd like me to explain, I'm happy to because it's essential for you to understand these principles to even begin to approach a topic as complicated as COVID.
ReplyDeletePeople (and I'm not talking about 80 year olds that have pre-existing conditions -- I'm talking about 30 year olds that much healthier than you or me), die from this every day. And yes, many of them are fully vaccinated.
Darren,
ReplyDeleteI don't think that a vaccine will work for anonymous. I recommend an air supplied hazmat suit.
That will make it easier for the rest of us to socially distance ourselves from him or her.
Over 630,000 people have died (which is a conservative estimate). Right now, on average, over 500 people are dying per day from it -- a number that is steadily increasing despite a vaccine being out and available. So, unfortunately, people are dying from this and these deaths wouldn't be happening if more people would just get the vaccine (see: Canada). The unvaccinated are mostly spreading virus amongst themselves and, in 99.5 of cases, killing themselves but are also, in albeit far rarer cases, causing breakthrough infections that result in death and are also taking up hospital resources. What's more unfortunate is the unvaccinated is the reason new variants propagate. Think carefully for a second about the consequences of what would happen if everything fully opened up tomorrow and everyone pretended like covid doesn't exist.
ReplyDeleteThankfully, people at Lollapalooza and Obama's soiree were nearly all confirmed vaccinated or covid-tested negative. Can't say the same about the hundreds of thousands of people who attended Sturgis.
It's impressive that you have the vaccination status for Lollapalooza, Obama birthday, and Sturgis attendees. Do you also have the vaccination status for the 2500 of us who attended Freedom Fest this summer? I may have seen 1 or 2 masks worn in the convention center there in Rapid City, and we weren't staying 6' apart.
ReplyDeleteAt this point the vaccines are readily available. If they work, we need to get back to life. If they don't work, why force people to get them?
Either way, we need to accept that there is a new risk in life and learn how to deal with it. For those of you who live in fear every time someone clears his/her throat, I recommend Anna's hazmat suit idea.
Anonymous,
ReplyDeleteAs far as antigenic drift, that is why there are no true (as in polio) vaccines for corona viri. That is why we get and recover from colds only to get them again when we either go to another part of the country/world or the season changes.
While I cannot easily find the name, I presume that you are aware that sometimes vaccines can make matters worse. From what I have read, that is the vaccinologist's worst fear.
Oh no! Obama's soiree *was* a "superspreader event"!!!
ReplyDeletehttps://freebeacon.com/politics/obama-super-spreader/
According to data compiled by the New York Times, COVID-19 infections in Dukes County, Mass., which contains Martha's Vineyard, have spiked in the days since Obama's selfish display of clout. Cases have increased 1,829 percent over the last two weeks, while hospitalizations have jumped 157 percent.
How many have died, though?
