Maybe Republicans are just leaving or never even moving there in the first place, if they can avoid it. Yes, California has great weather and tourist destinations, but in so many other ways, it just doesn't appeal anymore as a place to live - problems include local governments being out of touch with fiscal reality, increased crime, unaffordable housing, unnecessary tension with Hispanics (e.g. Aztlan-type movements that try to restart a long-over war), lives spent sitting on freeways, etc. My experiences there in traffic as a teenager caused me to never want to live in Cali again. And I haven't.
ReplyDeleteRemember the recent stories about companies leaving California. A lot of small business types tend Republican (if not necessarily conservative/TEA Party)
