A teacher who became notorious in the 1990s for having an affair with a sixth-grader is hosting a "Hot for Teacher" night at a Seattle bar - along with the former student, now her husband.
Morris says Saturday's event at Fuel Sports Eats & Beats will be their third "Hot for Teacher" night. She greets people and he DJs.
How about a "Hot for your daughters boyfriends night"?

Oh, I read about that. Ew.
ReplyDeleteYeah, shouldn't Son of Sam laws apply?
ReplyDeleteI remember Son of Sam, I don't remember the laws named after him.
ReplyDeleteI read about this before but couldn't imagine what to say. It is insulting to the entire teaching profession and makes light of the teacher's disgusting obsession with a child and her adultery.
ReplyDeleteAnd people are paying money to go to this???
How does this insult teachers who don't commit adultery with their students? I'm relatively confident that most people know the difference. Seeing the pictures of the two, I'm actually more concerned about insulting Van Halen's exceptionally fine "Hot For Teacher" video.
ReplyDeleteSon of Sam laws forbid profiting from a crime. However, they must be state stautes, and Washington may or may not have one. Even if they do, since the couple is now legally married, and are being paid , ostensibly, for work being done now, they probably wouldn't have applied anyway. If she wrote a book about the affair, the Son of Sam law (if there is one) would take her profit.
There is a loop-hole in a Son of Sam law in this case. I believe most SoS laws allow the victim to receive any profit the criminal makes. So, Mary Kay writes the book and Vili gets the profit.
ReplyDeleteAs to the bar gig, she can't work in the profession she is trained in. He didn't go to college as I understand and has limited earnings potential. So, this may be the best paying work they can get. Folks got to make a living after the crime and punishment.
Of course, you'll never see me at their events.
That's actually an amusing loophole. As crime victims go, Vili doesn't seem to make out too badly.
ReplyDeleteApparently.
I'm not sure the SoS laws all work that way though . . . the profits go to victims, but I'm not sure it's just that ONE victim.
