The CTA and Honesty

Read Coach Brown's account of what happened when he dared to challenge the CTA's take on a proposed law. If they'd treat a school site union rep this way, imagine how they'd treat you.

  1. Darren,

This really bothers me. I'm at a point in my life where I'm seriously considering a career change, and have been contemplating becoming a math teacher for some time.

However, I just cannot see having to become a member of what basically accounts for a "strong-arm" group to do so. I'm torn, because I honestly care about the education of our young people, and think there are few things as important, but cannot see putting myself through the grinder as a legitimate choice for myself and my family.

If anyone can offer enlightenment on this you can. Any words of advice?

  2. Become a teacher. It's a great job.

If money isn't too much of an object, try to find a job in a private school. If you get into public education, become an agency fee payer. All the information is available at CTEN's web site.

  3. Since we are discussing honesty and communication, I thought you might enjoy reading today's entry at Faultline. The one on the physics of media is the one I am particularly referring to, although I find myself enjoying the entire series.
