Venezuelan lawmakers have voted Hugo Chavez dictatorial powers.

"Long live the sovereign people! Long live President Hugo Chavez! Long live socialism!" said National Assembly President Cilia Flores as she proclaimed the law approved.
Two quotes come to mind. The first is a comment on one of my blog posts: "I have seen freedom die, and I have seen freedom born. Born's better." The other is from Senator Amidala in Star Wars Episode II (and I'll paraphrase here): "This is how democracy dies. To thunderous applause."

Did you think Barney was bad? or The Wiggles? How about this toddler tv show--about toilet training? Any description I give would be inadequate, so watch it yourself. Just know that it's from Japan, which should tell you something right here. I think the highlight is watching the animated poop swirling around in the toilet bowl.

The founder and owner of Little Caesars has given a franchise to a disabled soldier, and has created a program to help other veterans acquire a Little Caesars franchise. Bravo!

Remember last summer's $3+ gas prices? Remember all the cries about what President Bush should do to get them back down, as if he has any control over gas prices? Remember how people expected him to do something? Well, they're down. What do we hear now? In his best-selling, Pulitzer Prize-winning, definitely-a-prelude-to-a-propaganda-movie book Earth In The Balance, Saint Al proposed higher gas taxes, and hence higher gas prices, to compel people to use less. So what do we want, high gas prices, or relatively low gas prices?

If we impose gas taxes sufficient to suppress consumption, do these environmental loons suppose that the reasons for our highways will immediately vanish? Yes sir, nothing like draconian taxes to stimulate the economy!

Some people never learn from history. These folks keep doing the same things over and over and expect different results. That's the definition of insanity, isn't it?

  2. Wasn't it Reagan who said, "No country ever taxed itself into prosperity"?

There's no Little Caesar's here -- the only national chains we have are Domino's and Papa John. We have a bunch of New York chains and privately owned places, but no Little Caesar's.
