Minority Preferences in Education

While John's Discriminations (see blogroll at left) post is more about politics than education, I thought his first question was a doozie:

Does failure to award preferences to gays in college admissions...when such preferences are given to other minority groups amount to discrimination against gays?

Definitely a minority. Definitely historically marginalized. Definitely a liberal voting bloc. Sounds like a perfect candidate for preferences to me.
