I was on my home and was on the ramp getting off the highway. I saw a mini-van on the side of the road. There was a lady standing next to the van and in her arms she held her child. I can only assume her mini-van had broken down. I don’t know, perhaps with so many gad stations being out of gas, she had also run out. I slowed down and started to pull over to offer her a ride. At the very last second I noticed a “W” sticker on the back of her vehicle and I sped up and drove off.
Brought to us via Little Green Footballs. Charles does a great job showing the left's hypocrisy.
you know, I'm quite happy to condemn the particular person involved here. Except - who is it, exactly? I didn't see any attribution to any particular source.
ReplyDeleteDoesn't it seem at all odd to you to create a meta-argument against an obvious wacko who is anonymous and unsourced? More than that, to then tie whoever this guy is (if he even exists) to "the left"?
If you want, I can dig out particularly hateful quotes from "righties" about what is going on in NO. Would it be fair for me to expect everybody on "the right" to own those remarks?
Regards
Krill
ok, I found the attribution (didn't read to carefully I guess).
ReplyDeleteNonetheless, I repeat the same point: there are idiots on both left and right (do you want me to find some examples?). I condemn all of them. None of this, however, makes them /representative/ of "the left" or "the right" and no-one should be expected to "own" the remarks of every wacko at whichever end of the political spectrum just because they are labelled as being "left" or "right".
This is something I find particularly frustrating with much of politics in the US today; many discussions have been reduced to a cheerleading competition between the red team and the blue team - the actual issues take a back seat.

Krill
I've not met a leftie who's afraid to have a Kerry/Edwards sticker on their car--I still see lots of them. I know plenty of righties who are afraid because they think their cars will get keyed.
ReplyDeleteSad, no?
Mz. Smlph,
ReplyDeleteYou're entirely right--we wouldn't understand each other's votes. I assume that Kerry voters are sincere but misguided (!); unfortunately it seems that too many Kerry voters think we Bush voters are evil, racist, etc. Big difference.
What's important in this vignette is to remember that there was a *human being* in need of assistance. That should be the overriding factor. Would that author have said something like, "I saw her skin color and decided to keep on driving." I don't see much of a difference. And you've got to love that woman's belief in diversity, at least diversity of opinion.
We don't always have to agree, but in civil society we still respect each other and should act like a polity. That didn't happen here, unfortunately.
And don't think I let this one story color my opinion of lefties--it's already colored!!! :-)

ReplyDeleteKeyed? That's so 2000 man. You need to get with the times.
I like to leave cat poop on the inside of the driver's door handle.
Cars in airport long term parking are especially juicy.
Love them gas guzzeling SUV's with the W sticker.
It's like a becon that says "please cat poo me!"
They get cat pooed all the time.
Imagine coming home from a trip, and getting cat poopy all over your hands. It goes nicely with the blood that's already on their hands.
It's what they deserve for voting for Bu$h.
And without trying, I find another one.
ReplyDeleteAssuming this person is for real, and not one of Karl Rove's plants to make the left look bad....
Since the $ thingie seems to be a favorite, I think I'll start trying out KKKerry and KKKlinton and see how those go over :-)
ReplyDeletey'know, I don't think that last one was for real...
ReplyDeleteI honestly don't think anybody with a "W" sticker is in any more danger of vengeful stupidity than somebody with a "Kerry/Edwards" sticker.
If I had an "ACLU" sticker on the back of my car, though...
I do, Krill.
ReplyDeleteAnd I've had a "Support our Troops" magnet swiped off the back of my car. It wasn't there just for fun, either--my son's stepfather was in Iraq, a friend of mine was in Iraq, and I have one friend in Iraq now and another in Kuwait. I take these things quite seriously.
