Are These The "Tasty Waves" Of Which Spicoli Spoke?

This was just too funny not to mention.

Sean Penn's rescue bid sinks

EFFORTS by Hollywood actor Sean Penn to aid New Orleans victims stranded by Hurricane Katrina foundered badly overnight, when the boat he was piloting to launch a rescue attempt sprang a leak.

Penn had planned to rescue children waylaid by Katrina's flood waters, but apparently forgot to plug a hole in the bottom of the vessel, which began taking water within seconds of its launch.

The actor, known for his political activism, was seen wearing what appeared to be a white flak jacket and frantically bailing water out of the sinking vessel with a red plastic cup.

Here are links to pictures of the event.

  1. Yeah, as much as I despise the man I gotta give him props for going and trying to help. Granted he doesn't have the training and skills but he went, and from what I've seen didn't try to turn his efforts into a media light for himself.

He would have been more effective helping at a FEMA, RC, or other spot, rather than rescuing, but I don't expect him to know that.

  2. It's funny because the man is an idiot. A very talented actor, but an idiot. Trying to help? He sure helped in Baghdad, didn't he? and Iran? and now New Orleans.

Why mock him? Because I'm lazy, and he made it just too easy for me.

And come on, the red cup picture is just priceless, no?

  3. That boat is definately overloaded. (and would be unsafe with any additional passengers) His whole effort was undermined by having his publicist along for the ride...

  4. Its funny 'cause he's a self absorbed dumbass. He got a crapload of money, just make a donation and be done. You know, use what skills you have.
