I have to hope that as people get older and wiser that they'll recognize the importance of the First Amendment:
Why are liberals fixated on criminalizing speech? Whether it’s progressive politicians or hyper-sensitive college students, they all seem to be regurgitating the dogma of the day: speech that hurts or offends should be a crime.
Their goal is simple, if they can control how people speak, they can eventually control what they think. Saul Alinsky, the author of Rules for Radicals, knew this well when he observed “Control the language and you control the masses.”
Examples of the Left’s efforts to bastardized and control language are all around us. The demand that we recognize and use a near infinite number of personal pronouns, the invention of the euphemism “gender-affirming care” as a cover for permanent, body mutilating surgery, or the replacement of “pregnant women” with the absurd term “pregnant people,” just to name a few.
Refuse to participate in the Left’s grammatical delusion and you may face consequences.
Unfortunately, the Left’s efforts to control language is gaining traction, particularly among college students.
In a recent survey conducted for Newsweek, 33% of Generation Z Americans believe using the wrong gender pronoun should be illegal...
The Left’s efforts to compel “acceptable” speech, while criminalizing “unacceptable” speech reflects an alarming level of constitutional illiteracy, which poses an unprecedented threat to our rights of free speech and expression, which cannot go unchallenged.
Why stop at pronouns? My adjectives are hot/sexy/brilliant, and using any other adjectives to describe me is offensive and should be penalized greatly.
I went to Rio during the mid 2000's and have checked up on your blog a few times over the years, keeping it in the back of my mind when needing to catch up on the state of education. At that time in the mid 2000's I remember laughing at the "nonsense" majors when seeing them in college catalogs. There was even sarcastic joking about "the gay agenda" in that era of the mid 2000's as if it was crazy to think such a thing could exist. I even thought it was just about allowing the very small minority of people who were gay to get married and that was it. Fast forward to now. Stuff like "critical race theory" "queer" theory ended up not being just "joke majors" but actually have permeated education and entertainment. Students actually marching to side with Hamas/Palestine and more than just a "gay agenda" it turned out there is a new cult that deifies LGBTQ+ complete with a flag and everything and teaching that there are just different body types and you choose the identity you want. There is even a vilification of the opposite sexes expressing their attraction to each other as if one side (men) oppress the other (women) which in turn villifies how the majority (heterosexual) naturally are inclined (and leads to some weirdness in entertainment/movies now whenever there's male and female depicted on screen haha)
ReplyDeleteI consider myself to be a moderate. When I saw Claudine Gay of Harvard testifying, and then even saw banners supporting Palestine over the freeway, and saw how students would actually harass Jewish students unpunished, or how freely it seems there are people let in to the country who take advantage of our prosperity in America without holding the values that lead to that prosperity. I scrambled to check your blog to catch up on what the hell happened in education in the last several years (but more importantly, what the hell happened to attractive characters and heroic stories in entertainment :-P)
So I know you are ending your blog just as I felt the urgent need to rush to it to catch up on what happened, but I take this as a sign. Moderate people like myself and all those who are fed up with Disney movies and all of modern entertainment and are trying to find out the source of all this weirdness we're seeing do accept and see that there are big big problems, we see how the education system and leftist educators have indoctrinated students to a New Age religion, to salute a weird new flag and entertainment and the news media is also trying to do the same. It's kind of goofy to say too, but I think people being fed up with Disney movies' messaging, plus the horrifying video footage of students siding with Hamas rather than Israel, is a wake up call for many. A lot of us who work in a public corporation also have had to one way or another involve ourselves in DEI lingo related activity and workshops too, so all of society is noticing this weirdness and I hope are informing themselves about its source and realizing the horror behind it and how weird it is that it's replacing conventional patriotism at best, and becoming a cult/new age religion and a potential Marxist revolt in the future at worst.
I don't know what can be done to save this current generation of students who are then going to become leaders in the future whether in government, education, or eventually leading corporations and production too. They should have been taught to value their own pursuit of happiness, learned some history and their place in it and accepted that war and conquest are ways that nations have been formed; learned how special it is that we are in an era of human history where a country can have people who are not controlled under hereditary monarchy, strong men, warlords and dictatorship and that encourages the individual pursuit of happiness...and some fundamental skills like reading, writing, and arithmetic.
