If masculinity were truly toxic, then kids growing up without dads would presumably be better off than those who have them. But, they're not: they tend to be more depressed, aggressive & criminal. Truth is: we need more masculinity in society, not less.Yeah, what she said.
Darren, I know you're off of Facebook now, but you can put in on this.
ReplyDeleteOn Independence Day, I want to have a movie binge watch. Movies with overflowing testosterone, enough toxic masculinity to put the NAG gang into a coma.
Off the top of my head:
Patton. Has to be top of the list. "Rommel, you magnificent bastard, I read your book!"
True Grit. The Duke, "Fill your hand you son of a bitch!"
Dirty Harry. "I know what you're thinking. 'Did he fire six shots or only five?' Well, to tell you the truth, in all this excitement I kind of lost track myself. But being as this is a .44 Magnum, the most powerful handgun in the world, and would blow your head clean off, you've got to ask yourself one question: 'Do I feel lucky?' Well, do ya, punk?"
The Outlaw Josey Wales. "Dyin' ain't much of a living, boy."
The Dirty Dozen. "You've seen a general inspecting troops before haven't you? Just walk slow, act dumb and look stupid!"
And for some comic relief....
Animal House. "Christ. Seven years of college down the drain. Might as well join the f%^&ing Peace Corps."
Anything to add?
Top Gun.
ReplyDeleteI feel the need--the need, for speed!
