Irony Alert! Irony Alert!

"I'm not going there for politics, I'm going there for money."

--said by a self-identified communist who will be working in (politically conservative) Alaska this summer.  This student made this comment to me in class today.

Are we taking bets on how long he lasts?

Hey if he's going for money- we should be in it for the money too!

I never considered politics when I took a summer job. It was always for the money.

I guess I don't get your point either.

  5. My point is that the communist is trying to amass cash.

It's not surprising. Bernie also bought his second vacation home for 650k after campaigning against the "evils" of the rich. Hypocrisy from those types of people doesn't fully surprise me

    Irony alert:

Anti-union, pro-charter conservative, Darren works at a unionized public school in blue blue California.

He's not here for the politics, he's here for the money!

  9. I'm not a communist. I freely admit that I do the job I do solely for the money it pays. I don't preach the ills of trying to make a lot of money. And even though I'm merely a member of the middle class, I don't fault those whose efforts got them into the upper class.

The job I do is one that is constitutionally justifiable, as was the job I did as an army lieutenant. I'm not against government jobs, I'm against unnecessary and unconstitutional government jobs.

Also, I'm not a union member. I don't see the irony, much less any hypocrisy, in my position. I also don't see any cowardice on my part, unlike a commenter hiding behind a computer screen being anonymous.

Any low wage job your student is going to make is not going to be a fortune. Quite the contrary, what you call "amassing" wealth is just crumbs that the capitalist class has left for us to survive on.

  11. I'd rather have capitalism's crumbs than communism's--what good *does* communism offer, anyway?
