I Foresee "Issues"

This isn't quite how I would respond to the "let them use whichever bathroom they want" issue if I were a school administrator:
High schoolers in North Carolina may soon be allowed to carry pepper spray with them, a policy that one board member considers useful for students in light of President Obama’s recent order concerning transgender bathrooms.

The Rowan-Salisbury Board of Education ruled in favor of the use of pepper spray on school campuses, beginning in the fall of 2016. However, the board will review this ruling on May 23.

“Depending on how the courts rule on the bathroom issues, it may be a pretty valuable tool to have on the female students if they go to the bathroom, not knowing who may come in,” board member Chuck Hughes told the Salisbury Post, in reference to the lawsuit filed by the Department of Justice following the state’s signing of HB2.

  1. I ran into this recently, by Richard Feynman (in spoken in 1964): “…the teaching of arithmetic – but if you try to find out what is really known about what is the better way to teach arithmetic, that some other way, you will discover there is an enormous number of studies and a great deal of statistics but they are disconnected from one another and they are mixtures of anecdotes, uncontrolled experiments and very controlled experiments, so that there is very little information as a result.” (From “Best of Richard Feynman)

I don’t think much has changed. I find this remarkable given that there must be at least 250 PhDs granted every year in the US – each requiring a thesis with associated research. Yet there is almost nothing about teaching that can be stated with any certainty.

This issue has me really rethinking Trump since he is very much on record for letting men in the women's bathrooms. I may have to vote libertarian or just sit this one out.
