Lily Tang Williams, a mother of three, testified before the Colorado State Board of Education that Common Core was similar to the education she received growing up in Mao’s Communist China.Yes, I know there are Republicans who support it (and Democrats who don't). This is a "funny haha" post, not to be taken seriously. Don't get your panties in a bunch, my leftie friends.
“Common Core, in my eyes, is the same as the Communist core I once saw in China,” Williams said. “I grew up under Mao’s regime and we had the Communist-dominated education — nationalized testing, nationalized curriculum, and nationalized indoctrination.”
Education, politics, and anything else that catches my attention.

I Knew It!
It's a commie liberal plot!
My niece is a bright, intelligent young lady who up until this year excelled in math. The change to a new book and what amounts to the same methods as Common Core has completely eluded her and now she's almost giving up on math-in fifth grade. Her mother, my sister in law, is a data analyst for a medical insurance company. She works with data and numbers daily. She cannot figure out what the scope or the need for the additional steps in basic computing which are being thrown into the math program. They are unnecessary. As an art teacher, I made the observation that they were trying to teach creativity in math rather than in art or music or theater. Indeed I think they seek the elimination of such programs because the people who are pushing Common Core are not educators, psychologists, but are instead engineers who think they can program all children into a science/math state of mind. The irony is that the inclusion of such programs have allowed for the development of the innovative thinking that later on has produced more prizes and inventions than most of the rest of the developed world. STEM ideals in education are a direct extension of Common Core. Children would be better served as people with a STEAM directed curriculum that embraces creativity in all aspects, including the arts
ReplyDeleteSo Ellen, you mane something like a classical liberal arts education? Who would have thought that Sylvanus Thayer had it right all those years ago.
