Let's have some fun identifying (pop) songs with absolutely beautiful keyboard or piano components. I hereby offer these:
Music Box Dancer
Love Theme from St. Elmo's Fire
I'm Seventeen (you can hear an obvious Bruce Hornsby)
What about Fireflies?
Which Elton John song(s) should make the list?
"New York State of Mind" and"Scenes From an Italian Restaurant", Billy Joel... Elton John? pretty much anything ... but I would start with "Funeral For a Friend/Love Lies Bleeding", "Goodbye Yellow Brick Road", and "Your Song". Dramarama, "Classic Rot" and "What Are We Gonna Do". Not sure I'd qualify the Deep Purple sound as 'beautiful' ... but I'd put up the song "Lazy" ... and Jon Lord was a master.
ReplyDeleteThunder Road and Jungleland from Springsteen
ReplyDeleteMax, absolutely agree with you, pretty much anything by Elton John. Particularily I wuld have Empty Garden, Daniel
ReplyDeleteSorry Seems to be Hardest Word, Don't let the Sun Go Down on Me, Crocodile Rock and Saturday's Alright for Fighting.
Aerosmith, Dream On and Don't Want to Miss a Thing
As Times Goes By. Granted, not pop, but it is classic
Mike AT ... nothing I would argue with, but great calls on Sorry, Crocodile, and Dream On ... I was 40 before I realized that the firs verse of that song was referring to cocaine use ... may I add? "November Rain" and "Estranged" by Guns 'n' Roses Axl Rose can actually play
ReplyDeleteAnd ... this absolutely NOT pop music, but I would like to nominate the entire album by Jean-Pierre Rampal and Claude Bolling ... Suite for Flute and Jazz Piano. Simply gorgeous.
ReplyDeleteThanks Max....BTY Darren, another great one, not exactly pop but close. Chariots of Fire by Vangelis
