There's No 1st Amendment in Britain

Quite the conundrum:
Catholic schools in Wales are under fire after circulating a petition against the Welsh government's plans to redefine marriage to include same-sex couples, the Telegraph reports.

Last month, the Catholic Education Service asked 365 secondary schools in England and Wales to begin circulating a letter by the Archbishops of Westminster and Southwark defending the traditional definition of marriage. They also reportedly encouraged schools to promote the Coalition for Marriage campaign petition...

While the schools insist they are merely teaching Catholic values, secular and humanist campaigners accuse the schools of "political indoctrination" by promoting the campaign among students, the Telegraph reports.

The Welsh government is now reviewing whether the schools are breaking equality and political impartiality laws by circulating the archbishops' letter.
Well, it's a conundrum if you believe in religious liberty.

  1. Of course there is not a 1st Amendment. There is no Bill of Rights and there never has been. All rights in Britain are granted by the Parliament, and they may be rescinded by the same body.

Britain is not a Democracy or a Republic but a Constitutional Monarchy, with increasing tendencies to Socialistic Oligarchy.

Also, Catholics have had to tolerate governmental persecution from time to time in Britain. It is almost a tradition.

  2. Which is why the government should never sanction marriage. I mean, why bother? It's allegedly a legal contract, but it can be voided by either party without grounds, with reparations being granted to said party. Religious organizations are used to such hypocrisy; I would prefer my government not be.

  3. If you didn't know that the contract could be voided by either party at any time, you didn't understand the contract in the first place.
