That's enough from the Top 25.
My (hopefully) new alma mater, home of the Vandals, comes in at #449.
Hometown Sacramento State comes in at #501.
Because of our emphasis on financial prudence, the zero-cost military service academies rank highly. West Point, which topped the list two years ago, ranks third this time, thanks to outstanding teaching (#3) and high alumni salaries (#8), while the Air Force Academy (#10) and the Naval Academy (#17) glide easily into the top 20. Even the less prestigious academies – the Coast Guard (#97) and the Merchant Marine (#158) — score well.Let's not forget that the service academies also rank high in "student employment upon graduation" :-)
Outside of the academies, the highest ranked public school is the University of Virginia (#46) followed closely by the College of William and Mary (#49) and UCLA (#55).

ReplyDeleteMine came in at 470 -(SJS)
University of New Orleans... 618. That's bad enough, but our only celebrity is (and she was a drop out) Ellen DeGeneres.
ReplyDeleteUniversity of New Orleans also has James Clark (SGI, Netscape) as an alum. And he actually graduated!

Mark, thanks for pointing that out..
ReplyDeleteSince I've been on faculty with the Department of Mathematics at West Point since 2006, can I take a tiny sliver of credit for the high ranking?
ReplyDeleteYes.
