OK, so
this article was somewhat interesting, but I found this little tidbit of information to be both interesting
and counter-intuitive:
As you can see, Asian teachers, who presumably have a college degree, actually score lower than college bound Asians! This means they’re almost certainly drawn from a below average set of college graduates. For whites there is not so much discrepancy. And interestingly for blacks teachers seem to be drawn from the higher end of the distribution.
How does this statement, if true, relate to
this post?

ReplyDeleteLooking at the article and charts, that statement holds true in the math scores for whites and blacks also, i.e. college bound hs students scored higher on the SAT than teachers of the same ethnicity.
It's also interesting that the Asian teachers also did worse on the SAT than white college bound students and white teachers. Sounds like very few smart Asians are interested in teaching.
Score below on what sort of assessment? And how do they compare with other ethnicities in terms of score?
ReplyDeleteFor me, that statement is fairly misleading. Probably doesn't help that I'm Asian high school teacher to boot.
