This Is How We Roll In California

We face what is clearly an unsustainable (to use a term currently in vogue) pension system with promises that cannot be kept. How do we deal with that here in the land of the "reality-based community"?
Lawmakers essentially threw in the towel Thursday on comprehensive public pension reform - at least for now.

With this year's legislative session scheduled to end at midnight today, the Assembly voted 51-21 to approve a last-minute bill declaring its commitment to pension reform but conceding that more time is needed.
If I had any faith they'd reform and not merely tinker around the edges, I'd applaud their being circumspect. Instead, I sigh at their lack of fortitude.

As a teacher, I'm probably screwing myself by sticking around California until retirement age.

I just can't understand why you even work in public education. You promote the free market, yet work in a government job and enjoy the benefits of a union contract. I just don't understand why you don't start your own school, work for a private school or, in some way participate in the the free market system? It just doesn't make sense. I think your actions and choices speak much louder than your words.

  2. First off, you're not very creative in your thinking if you think every supporter of the free market *must* be an entrepreneur, or every teacher *must* be a socialist.

Second, do you have any commentary about this post? Or do you just want to toss snide comments my way from under the bridge?

Your are "screwing yourself" if you don't fight to keep your pension fully funded. As usual you talk the talk, but don't walk the walk.
