Ten Forward

Just stepped on the scale this morning for the first time in forever; I've gained 10 pounds since my accident. I despise having to reconquer the same ground, but I'll be darned if I'm going to let this accident make me a gimp and fat.

  1. I am often concerned by this very thought - I exercise using an elliptical. How much more work would I have to do to exercise using my upper body? Especially as I have one very bad shoulder and one mildly bad shoulder... I wish you the best in recovering this "same ground".

  2. Now can you try some plastic surgery for the face? :<)

  3. Each day before work I hop on my elliptical for 20 minutes, but that's not really burning enough calories to make a difference. That just wakes me up in the morning!

And MikeAT, don't bully me. (I may write a bullying post when I get home today.)

I have heard that pool running burns a lot of calories and is useful for recovering from injuries. Are you at a point where you would be able to do that?

  5. Yep, and there's a pool at the gym. But I *hate* cold water! Guess I have to be less of a wuss.

You know, I think the cold water may actually cause you to burn a few more. At least, I have heard that exercising in cold weather bumps up the calories burned, as does drinking cold water. I don't know how significant it is, but perhaps cumulatively it can make a noticeable difference.

OTOH, I am thinking that if I were to try that what would probably happen is I'd adapt and grow blubber like a marine mammal!

  8. A skiing accident in April, during which my ski sliced through 90% of my left kneecap tendon. Learning to walk again has been *such* a treat.
