A top House Democrat said the attack on Rep. Gabrielle Giffords (D-Ariz.) should change how members of Congress are screened at airports.
“I really believe that that is the place where we feel the most ill at ease, is going through airports,” Rep. James Clyburn (D-S.C.), who serves as assistant minority leader in the House, said on "Fox News Sunday."
Clyburn called for the Transportation Security Administration, which administers airport security checkpoints, to interact “a little better” with the Capitol Hill Police.
“We’ve had some incidents where TSA authorities think that congresspeople should be treated like everybody else,” he said. “Well, the fact of the matter is, we are held to a higher standard in so many other areas, and I think we need to take a hard look at exactly how the TSA interact with members of Congress.”
There's nothing I can say to make this buffoon appear any worse than he does by himself.
Well I'm comforted by the predictability of the response. If we were to wake up one morning to find ourselves with thoughtful, courageous, hard-working and honest representatives I'd suspect we'd been invaded by space aliens. They certainly wouldn't be representative.
ReplyDeleteHe is correct that congressman should not be treated like everyone else. They need MORE scrutiny, less one of them tries to bring a gun onto a plane, like Rep. Hostettler did back in 2004.
ReplyDeleteI'm curious as to which "higher standard" the congressman is talking about. With the approval rating of congress stuck below 20% I'd say most people hold them to a fairly low standard. One they deserve.
ReplyDeleteIf he wants to be held to a higher standard by TSA, then maybe he should be strip searched each time he flies. I pity the poor TSA agent that pulls that duty.
I think this little Freudian slip betrays the general attitude of long term Congressional occupants. Just another poster child for term limits.
