Least Worst

Yes, he was the least worst of the plausible candidates, but that doesn't give much comfort when I remember that I voted for this embarrassment.

Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger joked that he was afraid of being deported in Arizona during a commencement speech he delivered Monday at Emory University in Atlanta.

"I was also going to give a graduation speech in Arizona this weekend," Schwarzenegger said. "But with my accent I was afraid they would try to deport me."

The Republican governor is opposed to Arizona's new immigration law and said last month, "I would never do that in California." Schwarzenegger has blamed the federal government for not securing the border. link

If he "blames" the feds for not securing the border, what specifically about Arizona's law, which mostly restates federal law, does the governor object to?

Elected officials aren't supposed to act this way. Did he think it funny when people in other states proposed boycotts of California over Proposition 8?

  1. Arnold is a true disappointment. He's not conservative and frankly most of his views pander to the left.

  2. If you'll remember, we had an actual Republican running, one who had actually won office over and over again, and had an entirely reasonable platform. If everyone who had said "I like McClintock, but he won't win" had voted for him instead of Schwarzenegger, we might be a lot happier now. Those of you who vote convenience rather than merit will continue to get what you asked for every time.

  4. I knew the McClintock gang would show up, which is why I said plausible candidates.

Even Bill Buckley said not necessarily to vote for the most conservative candidate, but the most conservative candidate who can win. I liked McClintock, too, but he wasn't going to win. A vote for McClintock was a vote for Bustamante.

To borrow from metallurgy: pure ideology may be more valuable, but alloys are more useful.

  5. McClintock WAS plausible. If your basis for voting is 'he's less awful than the other guy,' you are destined to be disappointed every time. Worse, you can't even complain about the guy you voted for without having all the people who voted for the good candidate coming out of the woodwork.

  6. There was no way he was going to win the governorship of California. Heck, he couldn't win Lt. Gov. when he ran for it.

well i think there are a large number of illegals hiding out in california near LA and san diego, and i think he's publicly opposing this bill so he can keep their support and *try* to keep his support ratings high.

but i agree with the prop 8 statement and THAT bill actually has something for the rest of the nation to be pissed off about as it affects a HUGE number of people.
