Thoughts On Today's Massachusetts Election

Blogger Ann Althouse puts it about right, with equal parts optimism, reality, and snark:

“Poor Obama! It’s the eve of the anniversary of his inauguration. The State of the Union was supposed to be very grand. And now what? He has been repudiated! He made this election a referendum on the Democrats' agenda, and the people of Massachusetts, the most liberal state, gave him a resounding no. Now, I think that could be good for Obama. He’s a man of change. Let him change. I hope he becomes the President I thought he could be when I voted for him.”

My tagline for foul-mouthed liberals who thought they were being funny a few months ago: you've been teabagged.

  1. I concur with the sentiment - this should be the news the Obama administration needs to reach a broader consensus. Clinton and Reagan responded to setbacks and went on to successful, and at times bipartisan, presidencies. We'll see.

This should also be a slap in the face to the Republican Party leadership. Look what happens when you give people someone to vote for, as opposed to nominating RINOs (e.g. Lindsey Graham, John McCain, Olympia Snowe, Susan Collins) and saying “you got to vote against the leftist.” That's one of the reasons B Hussein Obama is now POTUS (and TOTUS has become so critical)

BTY, the SF Chronicle even says this may put some fear in CA Leftists:

“Sen. Barbara Boxer, a three-term Democrat, faces a re-election challenge - with three Republicans vying to defeat her: former Rep. Tom Campbell, former Hewlett-Packard CEO Carly Fiorina and Assemblyman Chuck DeVore of Irvine.

Boxer polled no more than 46 percent of the vote against any of the three in a Rasmussen Poll released Friday.

And with GOP Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger termed out, former two-term Democratic Gov. Jerry Brown will face one of two wealthy GOP challengers: former eBay CEO Meg Whitman or state Insurance Commissioner Steve Poizner.”

Could we be hearing the first shot of the Second Reagan Revolution!
