    I believe it he began the retreat on the night of 3/4 July. So I would put the start of the retreat as 3 July. When the Union woke up on the 4th of July they found Lee's army to be gone.

    If only Meade had chased him down immediately, the war might have ended a lot sooner. Ah well.
