    Hitler was Chancellor of Germany for 12 years (1933-1945). Germany was at war for 6 of those years (1939-1945), depending on whether you consider German involvement in the Spanish Civil War as Germany being "at war". If you include the Spanish Civil War, then Germany was at war for 9 of the 12 years (1936-1945).
