Alex Woinski, an eighth-grader at West Brook Middle School in Paramus, was sent home from school on Friday because of his costume.
Alex, who has shoulder-length brown hair, wore a white robe, a red sash, sandals, a fake beard and a crown of thorns.
His mother says Alex was told he could keep the costume on if he removed the beard and crown of thorns, but he declined.
Superintendent James Montesano says the district doesn't want students wearing costumes that could be distracting.
The boy's mother is Catholic.
I saw at least one Jesus this year, and my friend at El Camino dressed as Jesus last year. What's the big deal?

ReplyDeleteThe 2 most Scary words in the world are..
President Obama!
That's really too bad. I think it's a great costume.
ReplyDeleteBut, then, I am a bit of a curmudgeon, generally frowning on things like parties and dress-up days, and I like the fact that my school is always on Fall Break over Halloween, so we don't have to deal with the issue.
But, what does this have to do with Obama? Oh, I forgot, the election of a liberal is the sign of Armageddon. Or not.
They were probably worried about alcohol in the school....you know that whole "water into wine" thing.
ReplyDeleteIt's a shame. If nothing else, it could have made for some great headlines in the school newspaper. "Jesus conducts Communion in the cafeteria with Mountain Dew and Tuna Melt."
ReplyDeleteHe should have dressed up as a Palestinian suicide bomber. That would have been OK with the school admin folks, no doubt!

Wow. It's okay to dress up with a knife going through your head and blood dripping all over the place. Or for a girl to wear a skimpy outfit (like that wouldn't be a distraction). But not okay for someone to dress up like Jesus. Sad sad sad, our world today.
