AFT President Supports Obama's Children's Attending Private School

The hypocrisy of teachers unions never ceases to amaze me.

President-elect Barack Obama and his wife Michelle “have every right” to send their children to public or private school, and no one should “criticize” their decision, Randi Weingarten, president of the American Federation of Teachers (AFT), said in an interview with CNSNews.com on Monday at the National Press Club.

They can, because they can afford to. Poor people, though--tough! Go to crappy inner city schools!

And the teachers unions will still pour money into Obama's political pockets, whether he supports their agenda or not. Remember, he stated that he supports merit pay (who knows how long that will last), he sends his kids to private school (heresy!), and he doesn't support gay marriage (sacre bleu!)

OK, I don't know how to spell the French term. But you get my point. Why exactly do these people stumble all over this man? I'll tell you why. It's not because of his views on education, or because of his views on teachers unions. It's because teachers unions are leftie political organizations that have little to do with teachers or education, and it's all those other (liberal) topics they have in common with Obama that cause the unions to adore him.

It was the same with Clinton.

  1. Darren,
Good call. Just like Clinton was a supporter of women's rights. BO will forever be the beacon of the liberals. He supports the right things and that makes him the messiah.

  2. Don't you get it? They are so much wiser and better than us. They have already begun to set up the false primacy of the elite. They will not have the same standards of anything that we in the flyover states will have to endure. They know best. They will lead us. Let us now join in song to praise our "dear leader."

  4. Have you seen what the new super in DC is trying to do - a liberal appointee upsetting the unions:

Obana's hypocrisy is astounding on this one.

After all, he is sending his children someplace better than the crappy neighborhood schools they would have to attend in the bloated,over-funded, inefficient school district -- but opposing voucher programs that would allow the rest of the children to escape the same schools he views as not good enough for his children. Indeed, he accuses those of us who support providing vouchers of being enemies of public schools -- while proving that he is the enemy of hope and change for public school children.

  7. I'd be really insulted if I were sending my kids to DC public schools. Obama is saying the public schools aren't good enough for his girls.

I mean, I DO THAT, but then again, my political viewpoints are in line with that so at least I'm consistent. This guy is saying the schools are good enough for everyone else's kids but not his.

Have you heard of the horrid, restrictive homeschooling laws in DC? Absolutely astounding. You have to give notice, let people review your stuff etc. etc.... all came down after that Benita Jacks case.

  9. LOL Darren! I wasn't sure, seriously. Because I couldn't tell you too many technical things about the NCLB or teacher certification, etc. sort of shop talk that public school teachers do. I didn't mean to insult you, though your sense of humour is still intact, apparently.

    :]

  10. I was not insulted at all; I'd just never heard anything about what you'd mentioned.
