Teacher Jim Piculas does a magic trick where a toothpick disappears and then reappears.
Piculas recently did the 30-second trick in front of a classroom at Rushe Middle School in Land 'O Lakes.
Piculas said he then got a call from the supervisor of teachers, saying he'd been accused of wizardry.
You've got to be kidding me.
Update, 5/18/08: A couple weeks later, the school district responds.
Goodness gracious, what pure and total idiocy. Surely a piece of the puzzle must be missing?

The complaint probably came from some snake-handling parent who speaks in tongues.
ReplyDeleteHmmm...I've spent the last 20 years as a serious amateur magician and have used it in some form several times a week in every classroom I've taught...no complaints thus far...but, as Chris stated above, is there more to the story?

ReplyDeleteOh, God. What's next? Eric raises a good point; I've seen millions of magic tricks at birthday parties, and done of the magicians where hauled the way on the counts of sorcery. Seriously. I agree with ellen k, by the way.
