Tea Club

At my school we have a 15 minute break between 2nd and 3rd hours, and two ladies and I have teamed up to form a tea club. Each Wednesday one of us will bring tea and another will bring snackies, and that's how we'll spend our 15 minutes. I have prep 2nd period, so I've taken it upon myself to have the water nuked and the teabags simmering when the bell rings.

Last week I brought cranberry-pomegranate tea and my fellow math teacher brought cranberry rolls. Today I brought those delicious soft cookies with the frosting on top, and the counselor among our troika brought pina colada flavored tea that she'd purchased in the US Virgin Islands.

We're exclusive but we don't exclude; membership is open to any staff member--but you have to enjoy a cup of tea.

Update, 12/2/07: George Orwell had some thoughts on tea.

  1. It sounds suspiciously like the social graces club on The Office.

  4. That sounds simply fabulous. Perhaps I should institute one at work...

  5. Hmmm, The Finer Things Club seems a little push-up-the-nose snooty. We're just drinking tea, having some snackies, and socializing a little.

Having said that, Erica, *everyone* should have something like Tea Club. It's great fun.

  6. Heathen!

Tea is tea flavoured. Anything else is an abomination unto the Lord.

    ps:
Why dont Communists drink Earl Grey?

    Because proper tea is theft!

  9. Hey, cut him a break. You can't get good crumpets in Cali. And Devonshire Cream is something Britney would use as a hair conditioner. Having said that, our local Kroger has gone ethnic with a very large section for the Brits. I admit being put off by some of the goodies. Biscuits, okay I get that, but I cannot for the life of me fathom what treacle or spotted dick might taste like. Sounds more like diseases to me.

  10. Cranberry tea? PINEAPPLE tea? Aaaaaaaaa!

Tea is.... tea. It tastes like "tea" which, actually, provides a very wide range of flavor options.

I'm not talking about herbal tea (herbs taste like herbs) nor tea with some normal additions--you want to have a tea with a bit of orange peel and a cinnamon stick, be my guest.

But some things simply shouldn't be called "tea."

BTW, have you ever tried good tea? REALLY good tea? Loose, fresh, brewed at the right temperature, with the right kind of water? It might quickly convert you

p.s. yes, I'm a tea snob. But not a bad one, I wouldn't have posted for cranberry, it was the pineapple that pushed me over the top ;)

I have to agree with sailorman. Good tea requires no additional fruit.

  12. Darren, I'm quite impressed that you use the word "snackies". :)

I wish I could participate in your Tea and Sympathy. It sounds like a little piece of Heaven in the midst of an always hectic day.

  13. OK, is it bad that I just got the Communist joke above???

And Tea Club has expanded by one member--we're up to 4 now. It's a great way to spend 15 minutes. I recommend everyone participate in such an endeavor!
