Did Democrats Put Congressional Pages At Risk?

WASHINGTON (CNN) -- The head of the House Democrats' campaign committee, Rep. Rahm Emanuel, had heard of former Rep. Mark Foley's inappropriate e-mails to a former male page a year before they became public, a campaign committee aide told CNN.

The Democrats were quick to claim that the Republican leadership was partly to blame if they knew about Foley's conduct and did nothing. Do they think the same about Emanuel now?

I know where the smart money is on this one: "We've won the Congress. Let's just shut up about the Foley thing now."

Rahm Emanuel is not a republican. Other then being a good person, he has no reason to make Foley's emails public. He isn't directly higher then Foley and is of a different party giving him much less of a reason to be involved at all. Now on most posts I can see you being a moderate, but this one seems to be pretty slanted, especially the title.

  2. If *any* adult knows about activities that *could* harm children, and does nothing about it, then that adult, through his/her silence, places children at risk. One might even say that said adult is an accessory to any potential crime.

I have no heartburn with holding the Republican leadership to account on this topic if they knew anything--in fact, I specifically singled out Speaker Hastert on this blog at

Party label does *not* shield one from doing what's right. If Emanuel knew something inappropriate was going on and he took no action, then he's wrong.

  3. Oh, and the title of this post is intentionally inflammatory. It's designed to see who will come running to the protection of a Democrat just because he's a Democrat, who will try to twist and contort the interpretation that Emanuel might have screwed up by doing nothing.

    Why doesn't Foley use bookmarks?

He just bends the page over.....

Ahhh, but it was you who was arguing that Foley technically did nothing illegal awhile ago.

  6. I've seen no information that he ever touched a page.

But the Democrats wanted to milk the story for all it was worth--I just want to see if they'll take these last few squirts from the teat.

    Like my imagery?

Maybe you should tell this to all the Republicans who say that we are "winning" over there in Iraq right now.
