I've always thought of the British as a logical people, stoic and with a dry sense of humor. The Monty Python and the Holy Grail quote, "It's only a flesh wound", exemplifies that belief.
Then political correctness invaded Britain. Baa Baa Black Sheep was changed to Baa Baa Green Sheep. Can't say anything bad about anyone or the Metropolitan Police will investigate you for hate speech. A minority officer sues because he was promoted via affirmative action but wasn't competent enough to guard a royal and had to be reassigned.
I never thought I'd see British education go down the tubes, though. Here's what's happened at one school. Yes, it's only one school, but that's where it starts. Here in the US, the push to use purple pens instead of red pens for grading didn't spontaneously spring up across the country.
And no, this isn't the only sign of a downhill slide in British schools.
This is why British policy makers send their own children to schools like this and American legislators send their children to schools like that.
ReplyDeleteIt's all to spare their own progeny the consequences of the policies that they impose on the rest of us.
I wonder what the punshment will be for the kids who can't stop from raising their hands.
ReplyDeleteWhat will they think of next?
The sun has LONG AGO set on the Union Jack.....
ReplyDeleteWhats wrong with using purple pens to grade papers? I was using purple (and orange on occasion) years ago....because I like the color.
EdWonk: let's not forget Sidwell Friends, where the daughter of the greatest Friend of Education sent his daughter Chelsea. How quickly the NEA forgives Democrats....
ReplyDeletePolski: there's nothing wrong with purple, or orange, or green (the color I use). There's a lot wrong when administrations forbid teachers to grade in red or mandate purple (the new color of choice).
"Unacceptable in the current decade", "empowering different groups", "establishing...equality in society". What do those three phrases all have in common?
ReplyDeleteLeftist social engineering.
I don't believe in empowering groups. I believe in empowering individuals--and THAT, ladies and gentlemen, is a major difference between the left and right in this country today.
I hadn't yet heard that the Green Sheep story was a myth. Didn't see it on Snopes and don't know where else to look. Can you back that up?
Amy, I don't believe in empowering groups.
ReplyDeleteI believe in empowering people, and see this difference as a major difference between Left and Right in America. Empower the people and see where they go with their freedom. Empower the group, and everyone has to stay with the group. That's not the way it's supposed to be.
If you empower the group, people like Secretary Rice, General Powell, and Justice Thomas become Uncle Toms because they don't toe the group's party line. Yet, I'm glad those three individuals have succeeded and are doing the work they're doing.
