Several months ago, when the Marines' Officer Selection Station in Berkeley came under
city-sponsored protests and harassment, I sent a letter to the senior officer of that station, offering to bring snacks to his men as a show of support.
Just today I received an answer (click on the letter to enlarge):

Very classy. Gotta love the Marines.

It's a form letter, sure, but it was a nice touch.
Having been an Army recruiter long in the past, I can tell you that any recognition and support, especially from a teacher, is very much welcome.
