It's Over

Summer vacation is over. Tomorrow I go back to school and face students.

I've been going back the last couple weeks, here and there. We've had some personnel changes--one person I didn't think too highly of, one person who didn't think too highly of me--and I'm feeling really good about starting the new year.

Oh, there are going to be some challenges, all right. I don't want to list them here, in case any students stumble on this blog--don't want to be airing any dirty laundry to them!--but I think I can deal with the challenges. Actually, I guess I have no choice but to deal with them!

Early to bed tonight. I'll get up, record my weight, ride the elliptical trainer for 20 minutes, and get ready for school. 181 school days and counting!

For the first time in my life I’m dealing with children getting ready for school…gotta say it’s fun! :<)

Screaming about school supplies, one saying she needs a 150 dollar calculator on the first day, arguing over getting on the bus….

I thought generals could be childish…

Here's to a great year for you and your kids...and remember if you need a body disposed of these things can be arranged!

MikeAT, I wish you'd told me that before. I could have used such services!

Have a great first day! Our First Day of School is 8 Sep, but for me it will be just Wednesday. I retired from teaching this summer and am now engaged in my "encore career" as a lawyer.

It's been a weird year. At the last minute our building principal decided to retire. Usually those placements are made long before summer to allow for the staff to work together. Instead our new principal only had two weeks. For all that, I like the guy. He's got a wry sense of humor-sort of deadpan delivery. And he listens, something I did not have previously. So while I am sorry the previous principal is gone, I am seeing more liveliness and more enthusiasm, especially from young teachers. Ironically, because my room is the first one with a first period class down the hall from his office, the principal manifested in my first period class while I was discussing learning styles and such. I guess I did okay because I didn't get a negative email. I just hope I relearn how to sleep and that my feet don't hurt as bad tomorrow night.
