Prepare for harder.
The bitter winter afflicting much of the Northern Hemisphere is only the start of a global trend towards cooler weather that is likely to last for 20 or 30 years, say some of the world’s most eminent climate scientists.
Their predictions – based on an analysis of natural cycles in water temperatures in the Pacific and Atlantic oceans – challenge some of the global warming orthodoxy’s most deeply cherished beliefs, such as the claim that the North Pole will be free of ice in
summer by 2013.
According to the US National Snow and Ice Data Centre in Colorado, Arctic summer sea ice has increased by 409,000 square miles, or 26 per cent, since 2007 – and even the most committed global warming activists do not dispute this...
But the effects are not confined to the Northern Hemisphere. Prof Anastasios Tsonis, head of the University of Wisconsin Atmospheric Sciences Group, has recently shown that these MDOs move together in a synchronised way across the globe, abruptly flipping the world’s climate from a ‘warm mode’ to a ‘cold mode’ and back again in 20 to 30-year cycles.

So, it's a weather cycle? Weren't some scientists telling these global warming kooks that all this time? So, what happens to all that farm land in Africa being used to make money from global warming offsets by planting carbon-eating trees?
Even when I was younger, I remember the weather being different (colder) in the winter. I remember snow - enough to sled and make a snowman in NW Georgia. I remember going to Chicago to visit my dad in the spring and there being a huge snowstorm. I'm sure if we ask our parents or grandparents, they will remember a time when the weather changed.
All this hysteria over global warming (or "climate change") was generated to redistribute wealth and put all the power into the hands of a few greedy idiots like Al Gore. I don't believe for one minute he believes his own crap.
You are missing the forest for the trees. Don't confuse weather with climate.
Climate is long term averages. Weather is what we experience day to day.
Climate change means that long term averages will change. That means averages over the whole globe, not just Europe or NE North America.
Global warming is quite likely to lead to more extreme winters, because more energetic forcing will lead to more oscillation. But the overall average of temperature will still be warmer because the summers will be even hotter.
In other words, try to remember the nice cool you're enjoying now when next summer is the worst scorcher you've ever lived through.
Who's to say that the current world temperature ranges are the optimum temperature anyhow?
Script Maven, I keep hearing that "scorcher" mantra--last summer was supposed to be the worst scorcher ever! And I like how "global warming" is going to be balanced by "frigid winters" and yet, you claim that averages are what constitutes "climate".
I'm sure there's someone down the street who will buy that snake oil, but I wasn't one of the suckers born that minute.
Sadly, the "long term average" reaches no further back then about 1850 which, coincidentally, is as far back as all the doctored temperature charts reach.
Oh, and climate may be long term averages but climate *science* ought to predict something which it so far does not.
That global temperatures have dipped over the past ten years is incontestable but the failure of those widely-touted computer climate models to predict much of anything, including this decade-long, global cooling is why the warning about confusing climate and weather is falling on deaf ears. Somewhere there's an overlap between climate and weather and a ten-year long trend definitely falls under the former, not the latter.
And of course, leave us not forget the source of a great deal of those authoritative assurances about climate warming, the Climate Research Unit of the University of East Anglia.

I know that Global Warming, err Climate Change, err what is the latest crap they are putting out is kick ass. For the first time since I’ve moved to Houston in 1998, I put HEET in my gas tanks over the weekend.
For those of you who don’t live in the mountains, HEET is fuel antifreeze that keeps ice from forming in your gasoline which causes fuel blockages. I lived off that stuff when I was in Colorado Springs.
Colorado I understand…but Houston?
In a UK Guardian article, it was reported that when the same winter storm that hit the South and Midwest of the US two weeks ago hit the UK, that due to the people in charge all being Global Warming adherents, there was only six days of "grit" used to prevent autos from sliding during frigid weather. It seems that they assumed that due to GW, they wouldn't need it anymore.
