President Bush and Cowboy Diplomacy

Maybe that whole "Bush is going against our NATO allies" thing wasn't Bush's fault at all. Witness his cordial relationships with Tony Blair and Gordon Brown, and now Sarkozy in France and Angela Merkel in Germany.

Maybe the problem was Chirac and Schroeder, not President Bush. Odd that the Europeans are moving more right as the US moves more left.

My thoughts as well. As I recall, both of them were elected as the result of a huge push for separation from the U.S.-part of the German psyche needs to be viewed as independent and the French, well, they're French! When the economies of both nations suffered under the socialist inspired burden of fees and taxes, the voters rebelled. So if we in turn elect the most liberal president in history along with the Democrat controlled Congress, we will get the same kind of high cost government-and probably the same political reaction down the road. Politics is a pendulum and for every action there is an equal and opposite reaction.

Good post. Chirac and Schroeder were political opportunists and will be judged historically as the worthless leaders they were. Chirac had business holdings in Iraq and Schroeder was a piece of s*** who wanted to be reelected and would do anything to get there. Bush will be judged well in history. He won't get any credit today and that's a shame.
